By the time I publish this, the election will be run and won. But life as we know it and how we choose to experience it will keep rolling like the long grass of wheat fields.
During a recent trip across the oceans to visit us, my wife's uncle, Jon, who resides in the United Kingdom, was inspired to pen a poem. He captured some of his thoughts and feelings about his time with us in this piece of writing. His poem provides a unique perspective on our home and lifestyle, seen through the eyes of a visitor experiencing it firsthand.
Jon wrote the screenplay for the cult film "Surf Nazis Must Die," and children's books like "The Tiger Who Wasn't." Beyond shared passions for music and lyrics, global events, and conspiracies, Jon and I share a deep connection that helps us both heal from past traumas. He's my brother from another mother.
Jon Ayre - Freebird to Family
Once, where the deer run,
and the rain makes caves of tractors work,
Where the smell of cut grass and pecans mingle,
and the warm of home is a mushroom bake of sky,
I found a creek with milky glow,
where shafts of sunshine go
to move the boatmen on the water,
and royal purple crowns the banks, and dreams the tiny flowers in garlands underfoot,
Where whip birds crack and finish their sentence of song,
and thoughts embraced by trees share the wisdom of silence;
the hunger of rain
and the food of light.
And in the deep of my soul the moon sleeps
and night crosses over.
And there I found a heart where those who were not here were here,
and none would ever leave or want to,
where the stillness of the night
and the beauty of dark clear air
made its home forever -
in a moment-
wrapped in the swell of mountains
like a sea that will never forget,
and the earth gazes up in remembrance…
Thanks to Jason and my family. Much loved people in a magical place.
